Library Signage: The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly

60 minutes (can be 90 minutes for more interactive with exercises)

Description: Customer service and library signage go hand in hand. How do patrons see your library’s signage and does it address appropriate customer needs? The session will look critically at many types of library signs and review the positive and negative aspects of library signage. We will also address how to conduct a signage audit and the importance of library branding. This session also addresses customer service issues as they relate to signage. Online resources will be provided and there will be opportunities for Q&A and discussion.

Effective Communication Skills

60 minutes (can be 90 minutes for more interactive with exercises)

Description: By learning some simple skills and techniques, networking with colleagues in person or online doesn’t have to be scary or intimidating. In this session, attendees will take a close look at various personality types and communication styles. The more you know about personality types and communication styles can make almost any interaction a pleasant one. Online resources will be provided and there will be opportunities for Q&A and discussion.

Marketing and PR Skills for Friends

60 minutes (can be 90 minutes for more interactive with exercises)

Description: You don’t have to be a graphic designer, webmaster, or user experience designer to effectively promote and market your friends of the library group events, but it is a good idea to have a basic marketing plan and to know a few other basics before you get started promoting your next book sale or other membership event. We’ll review additional resources to get your Friends group pointed in the right direction.

Photography Basics for PR and Marketing

60 minutes (can be 90 minutes for more interactive with exercises)

Description: Are you wanting to make your library images really pop? This session will delve into information about types of digital cameras, lenses, basics of camera operations, image composition, online image storage, and online editing tools. Learn how to stage a library area to make it look its best and how to incorporate those images into your library’s promotional and marketing strategies. We’ll also look at how to create your own library stock images using Canva.

Thinking Forward-Revitalizing Your Keeping Up Habits

60 minutes (can be 90 minutes for more interactive with exercises)

Description: Do you feel like you get behind on technology innovations, e-books, communications, PR, and library and information science in general? This session will take a look at numerous important resources for keeping up to thinking forward. Attendees will have an opportunity to share their experiences and methods they use for keeping up as well. (Includes a customizable Professional Learning Plan template in WORD or PDF). Attendees will be able to identify the basic skills and techniques for thinking forward in their careers and personal experiences.

Rethink and Rejuvenate Your Meetings

60 minutes (can be 90 minutes for more interactive with exercises)

Description: Meetings should be productive and have a purpose. Many times staff members dread meetings and would rather do anything but attend them. This session will introduce and reaffirm various components of hosting and attending meetings. We will discuss group dynamics, active listening skills, conflict management, creating an inclusive environment, and communicating clear meeting guidelines, instructions, and outcomes. Attendees will be able to discuss methods to avoid and what works well in their library settings.

Thank you!

You have been an immense help to us!  Your professional insight was of great help in the process. Thank you! -Jimmie Epling, Director of the Darlington County Library System

This was an awesome presentation! The content was very informative and the way it was presented was effective! Thank you for this great session! So helpful! -Wild Wisconsin Conference Attendee

Thanks very much for your Library Image session at SCLA last week.  It sent me back to my library committed to do the image “walk” and reconsider our branding.  Your session was certainly one of the most useful conference sessions I’ve ever attended. -Sandy Leach, Associate Director, Lineberger Memorial Library (Retired)
