About Me

I have worked in the library and information science field for over 30 years. Early in my career, I worked at the Union (SC) Carnegie Library, and the Charleston County (SC) Public Library, and I have also taught courses at the USC School of Library and Information Science.
I retired in 2021 from the South Carolina State Library where I worked for over 27 years and held positions as a reference librarian, webmaster, continuing education coordinator, interim director, and communications director.
I received a Bachelor of Arts in Geography, Master of Library and Information Science, and Doctor of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of South Carolina. In 2001, I completed the University of the Azores Summer Study Course in Azorean Portuguese Culture and Language and in 2002 I completed the Certified Public Manager credential.
In 2008, I was President of the SC Library Association. Around that same time, I developed a national library survey on library use of social media for public relations. I was able to present this survey’s results at the 2009 German Library Association Conference and at the State and University Library of Hamburg.
I have served on the board of Friends of South Carolina Libraries and am the current chairperson of the ALA CORE Library Consulting Interest Group. I have also served as secretary of the Library Marketing and Communications Conference, secretary of the SC Academy of Authors, as well as chair of the USC School of Library and Information Annual Literacy Leaders (ALL) Awards Committee.
I am a proud recipient of the 2015 F. William Summers Outstanding Alumni Award from the USC School of Library and Information Science. I am a member of the South Carolina Association of School Librarians, and upon retirement, I was honored to receive a Lifetime Membership in the SC Library Association.
